We’re down to the last 40 days of the year, and I know—it’s cold, days are shorter, and screens are oh-so-tempting for the kids. But this is also a great time to jumpstart a healthier, more active lifestyle that carries right into 2025.

And the best part? We’ll do it together! 🏃

Lets goo!!

Here Comes the 40-day Goal…🎯

With the final weeks of the year ahead, what should you be aiming for? Here’s what I think the best course of action is:

Aim for 30 to 60 minutes of movement daily—just enough to get them off the couch and out of their "I’m bored" funk. This isn’t about a full fitness transformation in 40 days (though, hey, bonus points if it happens) but more about building momentum for healthy habits in the new year.

Setting the Stage for the New “Active Lifestyle”

Here’s the thing: kids copy what we do, not just what we say. So even if time’s tight, squeeze in one family activity each week—like a brisk walk, bike ride, or a 15-minute dance-off. Last week, I challenged my kids to see who could perfect a TikTok dance first.

Spoiler: they schooled me, but we laughed ourselves silly. 😀

Make it playful and roll right into 2025 with those vibes!

The Cold Weather Shouldn’t Stop YOU

I know it’s getting cold out there and going outdoors is kinda not feasible many days. So, here’s a quick list of activities to try indoors with your kids. ⬇️

Dance Party

Dance to fun music or follow a video.

Indoor Obstacle Course

Use cushions and toys to create a course.

Treasure Hunt

Hide items with clues or tasks.

Balloon Volleyball

Play with a balloon as a volleyball

Kids' Yoga

Follow a kid-friendly yoga video.

Hula Hooping

Do quick hooping competitions

Scavenger Hunt

Find objects or complete tasks around the house.

Simon Says

Active movements like hopping and spinning.

Jump Rope

Skip rope if space allows.

Indoor Bowling

Set up a bowling alley using empty plastic bottles as pins and a soft ball. This activity enhances coordination and provides fun competition.

Indoor Hopscotch

Use tape to create a hopscotch grid. And play!

Freeze Dance

Play music and have kids dance freely. When the music stops, they must freeze in place. This game combines fun with physical activity.

Balancing Screen Time Without the Battle 😣

When we stay indoors, the common refrain from kids is, “But I’m bored!”—and before you know it, screen time can skyrocket.

In my house, we had a simple rule: 60 minutes of activity earns 60 minutes of screen time. I won’t pretend it’s easy, but the clarity helps. And if you’re expecting them to step away from screens, we have to lead by example. If you say, “No screens before activity,” don’t reach for your phone either. 📵

Something that always works is, asking your kids to make a list of fun non-screen activities they want to try and when they’re bored and reaching for their ipads, this list comes to rescue!

Let the fun begin, shall we? 👏

Veterinary costs up 60% over the past decade

Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, encouraging them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services.

Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement.

Note for My Fellow Laid-Back Parents 😌

Parents, here’s a reminder: it’s okay if your kid isn’t great at everything. This time is for them to explore, learn, and yes, even fail a little. They need to try new things—sports, music, acting, anything that sparks their curiosity.

Let them discover themselves without all the pressure. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about finding joy in being active and growing.

Catch you next time!
